The Sound of Music
This past weekend, our family had an opportunity to visit the music center in Los Angeles and while we were there, we decided to catch a matinee showing of the classic “The Sound of Music.” We had seen the iconic movie with Julie Andrews and sang along to the memorable songs so we were looking forward to seeing this musical.
About 30 minutes into the show, there was a power failure and a complete blackout. The performers being the consummate professionals carried on for a few seconds until a stage crew announced the show would be stopped until they could get the power back. After about 10 minutes, they got the power back up and while a few audience members left, the majority had an incredible time enjoying this magical song and dance.
What I learned from all this being in the church world? Even with the most advanced technology, budget and crew, things don’t always go as planned. For those in the weekly grind of ministry, this is something that we need to take to heart. Yes, we should do our very best and give our excellence in all that we do but to understand that failures and mistakes do happen. We just roll with the punches, learn from it and move forward.
